In this high-speed, automated threat landscape, the point of entry rarely starts with a technical failure. It starts with someone clicking “yes.”

Afterall, malware evolves autonomously. Deepfake voices replicate in seconds. Phishing emails now read like urgent, personalized memos from inside your own company.

A recent Forbes Technology Council (2026) piece offers a revealing diagnosis: today’s most dangerous cybersecurity risks stem from human behavior. And it’s not because people are uninformed, but because they operate with misplaced confidence inside systems designed to move quickly, quietly, and impersonally.

In most offices, speed is a virtue. Employees approve invoices, respond to DMs, and greenlight access requests without pausing, because that’s what modern workflows reward. But attackers understand the rhythm. They mirror tone, exploit urgency, and insert just enough credibility to blend in.

This is the backdrop for what Forbes panelist Nidhi Jain calls “workflow autopilot.” Critical actions now come wrapped in routine. AI-generated prompts, templated emails, and auto-scheduled approvals make everything feel safe, even when it’s not.

AI-driven systems promise speed, scale, and reduced human error. But they also introduce a more subtle threat: over-reliance. Several Forbes contributors, including Ajay Pandey, Jason Sabin, and Vasanth Mudavatu, point to the same emerging pattern: teams accept automated decisions too easily. AI flags a change, suggests a reply, or recommends an action and it gets approved without pause. The issue isn’t “|bad AI”, but the assumption that AI is inherently neutral, correct, or harmless. Once human oversight recedes, even minor algorithmic misfires can escalate into full-blown breaches.

Old-school phishing played on curiosity. Modern phishing plays on emotion: urgency, fear, trust. These cues now arrive cloaked in personalization and powered by AI, when voices sound real, timelines feel urgent, and targets respond reflexively.

Defenses must grow more human, not just more technical. Teams need simulations that mimic emotional manipulation, not just malformed email headers. Digital hygiene matters too since social media oversharing (e.g., event photos, badge selfies, flight check-ins) offers attackers a blueprint for trust-building. In the hands of a language model, those breadcrumbs become context for highly credible attacks.

Most organizations still rely heavily on alert systems, assuming more pings equals more protection. But as Balaji Adusupalli points out, alert fatigue numbs people into compliance. Urgency loses its meaning. Employees learn to dismiss the signal along with the noise.

Systems that elevate only real threats, combined with education around what actually matters, form a more sustainable defense. Less noise equals sharper instincts.

Altogether, the story these experts tell is not one of doom. It’s actually one of urgency and redesign. Human risk cannot be “trained away” with annual modules or passive webinars. It has to be accounted for structurally.

Strong security now demands:

  • Behavioral realism: Train for real-life scenarios, not textbook exploits.
  • Framed skepticism: Give people permission to challenge automation.
  • Streamlined noise: Remove false urgency to highlight real risk.
  • Policy that enables: Offer tools that match how work actually gets done.

The goal isn’t to turn everyone into a security expert. The goal is to create systems that support human attention, reward caution, and reduce the cost of asking a question in a landscape shaped by deepfakes, synthetic media, and algorithmic manipulation.
