The State of AI Bots in 2026: Risk, Readiness and Governance

State-of-AI-Bots-in-2026-Cover

AI-driven bots now generate nearly one-fifth of all enterprise traffic, and most organizations aren't ready for what that means.

Insights from 300 enterprise IT and security leaders in a new survey from TechStudio, an Energize Marketing® company, in partnership with Hydrolix, reveals a stark divide between confidence and capability. The findings are a wake-up call for any organization managing high-volume digital infrastructure.

What the data shows:
  • 79% of organizations are confident they can detect bot activity. Only 23% have a proactive strategy to act on it. That’s a 56-point gap in readiness vs. reality.
  • Just 33% say their WAF or bot detection solution blocked more than half of AI bot traffic in the past year.
  • 54% expect customer experience degradation — not cyberattacks — to be their primary bot-related impact within 12 months
  • 74% cite credential-based attacks as a top threat, followed by DDoS (51%) and AI-driven scraping (40%).
  • 40% point to budget constraints as the top barrier to effective bot management. Limited visibility (30%) and telemetry overload (27%) aren't far behind.
Bots aren't just a security problem anymore. They're a business problem — one that's getting harder to ignore as AI scales the speed, volume, and sophistication of automated traffic across enterprise environments.
